Designed for gentle stirring of suspension cell cultures and especially suitable for stirring microcarriers and for cells with poor attachment rates. Smooth stirring action, even at the slowest speeds, is achieved by a specially formed stirrer rod which moves slowly through the culture medium in a vessel shaped to correspond with the profile of the rod. The stirrer itself includes SOFTSTART and SOFTSTOP acceleration and deceleration to prevent cell damage on start-up and switch-off, accurate electronic speed control 0-80 RPM, interval stirring with variable on and off times to improve cell attachment rates. There are no bearings inside the culture vessel to grind cells or to clog up. The culture vessels can be pathogenically sealed. The system uses less than 2 Watts, therefore it will not heat up when placed in an incubator. Stirrer rod is activated by magnetic coupling from rotating magnets underneath the stirrer platform.
